Since I apparently enjoy reading diseased rhetoric for fun and profit, I decided to look up quotes on beauty this evening.  Sure enough, I found a number of bizarre and exciting quotes conflating beauty with goodness and ugliness with character flaw, but one fine gem from Edgar Allan Poe particularly jumped out at me:

This first one is a Nellie McClung quote about activism:
